From a distance, the job of a television news anchor or presenter would appear to be fun. Many teenagers and young adults occasionally drift off to wonderland and dream of becoming like many of the known faces on television.
Few of them take time out to imagine the challenges that most of these television personalities encounter in their line of duty.
Many television presenters would reveal it takes a lot of guts to maintain their composure under the pressure-cooker atmosphere that precedes live programmes such as news, outside broadcast coverages and entertainment variety shows. One television personality who’s seen it all is the presenter of etv’s The Late Night Celebrity Show , Dzifa Affainie; now DzifAffainie.
Dzifa’s exceptional interviewing skills and her ability to tame the most controversial of artistes, on her celebrity show, stems from years of experience in television. As she sat opposite me, during our interview, the petite and charming mother of three appeared calm while answering my questions.
“I believe ageing is a state of mind and how one carries herself around matters a lot. I’m in my mid 30’s, given birth to three kids, lost one child at delivery and pregnant at the moment but people see me and think I’m below 20 years.
“I feel young all the time and I guess it’s working for me. I don’t eat anything special but perhaps the glory goes to Almighty God for giving me this physique and a man who will do anything to maintain a woman he loves”. This, according to her, was the secret to her never-changing petite figure.
The bubbly presenter, who recently changed her showbiz name to DzifAffainie, said she had hinted her fans about the change of her showbiz name a year ago through an interview with peacefmonline. She said “though some celebrities are using showbiz names which are far from their original names, mine has something to do with my current name.
“ I was born Deborah Dzifa Klu, and this is the name most of my St. Mary’s Secondary School colleagues know and that is the name I started my profession with during my Teenbeats days. For some reason, my father decided to change our surname to Smith and I also decided to make my traditional name my first name. Then, I shortened my Christian name which became my second name. I therefore became Dzifa Debbie Smith.
“The Empire Champagne Party,” unarguably, the biggest and most exclusive rave on the Accra nightlife calendar returns this year on Saturday 25th May, 2013 at the plush Villa Monticello.
The Empire Champagne Party is a formal event that brings together thousands of attendees with the objective of allowing rave folk to socialize and enjoy the very best of entertainment from excellent music, party lounges, exciting performances and an exquisite mix of assorted champagne and finger foods against a backdrop of the most alluring ambiance.
Last year’s edition, held at the Event Haven [inside the Trade Fair Centre-La], saw an eclectic mix of corporate gurus, A-list celebrities and the city’s “movers and shakers” in attendance.
All were undoubtedly swept away by the stunning and unique setting that transformed the venue into several party lounges; the black and white lounge, the White lounge and the VVIP lounge with each offering a surprisingly diverse mix of different raving experiences for all attendees.
Keeping up to its pre-event billing, guests were treated to glasses and bottles of the world’s most premium champagne brands, Moet & Chandon as well as Veuve Cliquot; all of which were provided by Moet & Chandon.
This year , organizers - Empire Entertainment, have promised to deliver an even bigger and more enchanting event that will up the ante on the standards set with last year’s event and once again re-define the art of raving in the city as has become synonymous with all Empire Entertainment events over the years.
This year’s edition is set to feature three exclusive party lounges which will each offer a different party experience for attendees. There will be the Moet and Chandon Lounge [standard], the Veuve Cliquot Lounge [VIP] and the Dom Perignon Lounge [VVIP] all set inside Villa Monticello on the night. Sensational gospel diva, Herty Borngreat aka Herty Rapper has called on her colleague musicians to support the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) and as well pleaded with all gospel ministers to pray for the success of the event.
“As Christians, we should not forget that the things we say with our mouths must be positive. So instead of condemning and speaking about only the shortfalls of the VGMA, we should rather be saying, confessing and professing positive things about the event.
“As ministers of the gospel of Christ it is expected of us to say special prayers for the success of the music awards. We should not get carried away by the negative media basing and all that because at the end of the day that is one of the leading awards events for musicians we have and we must all protect it, support it, pray for it and make sure it is successful and even grows bigger and better,” Herty Rapper told NEWS-ONE.
When Herty was asked if she disagreed with the substance of the criticisms raised against the VGMA, she said though some of the issues were worth looking into, others were overly exaggerated.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying there are absolutely no issues. What I am saying is that we all must be seen helping to address the challenges rather than just standing as fierce critics whose only task is to find faults.
“I’m an optimist and I know, no matter how huge the challenge may be, it can be solved when we all throw in our support, efforts and above all prayers. And especially as gospel musicians, we should be seen thinking positively, giving hope to the organizers and using our faith in prayers to help make the event a success,” she explained.
Herty Borngreat was able to bag three nominations for the 2013 VGMAs. Her song, ‘Ka No Saa’ in which she featured Trigmatic is competing for Best Collaboration of the Year and the same song is also competing for Best Gospel Song of the Year.
She has also been nominated for Gospel Artiste of the Year.
Herty, a gospel singer, is seen as the most visible link between the secular singers and the Christian singers. She has two mega hit gospel tracks, one with Sarkodie and the other with Trigmatic.
Her ‘Bebrebe’ duet with Sarkodie was produced by Kaywa and it
talks about how Sarkodie’s mother was suffering from ill health and her situation deteriorated to the extent that she almost lost hope until she miraculously got healed.
Sarkodie also sang about how God had raised him from obscurity to prominence and blessed his music career so much that he has grabbed some of the industry’s biggest awards.
Herty also sings about the blessing of God in her life and the number of children God has blessed her family with. Indeed, Herty has five strong children all below age 12.
“I believe any gospel musician who cannot mingle freely and work with musicians who do not belong to the gospel fraternity has a problem. If we cannot take our message of Christ to our fellow musicians with whom we belong to the same profession, then we have no business attempting to reach others.
I’m proud of the collaboration with Trigmatic because at the end of the day, he has helped my ministry. He has done God’s work and this is just the beginning of such collaborations,” Herty explained the rational of her collaboration. Story by News One
Last week Saturday, 2Face Idibia and Annie Macaulay exchanged martial vows. The two lovers, in the presence of guests at the event, renewed the love they both have for each other.
Below are their marital vows;
Many years ago, I was farther than the eyes could see. Now, we are now in that future. When I look into your eyes, I still see. You came into my life and you lit it up like the sun, like the moon, like the stars.
All the words in the dictionary, all the words in this world can not be enough to say what my heart feels for you. But all I can say is baby, my heart is like a stereo right now and it will beat only for you till death do us part.
I love you baby.
My joy, my heart, my friend, my love! I stand before you today as open as I can ever be, humbled by the light and love in your eyes.
13 years ago, I met the most amazing man on earth. I flew on the wings of that love, uncaring, unheeding believing firmly that you are and will always be the wind beneath my wings.
Life happened, oh yes life happened but through it all my heart beat only for you. My heartbreak became my greatest joy, my strength, my life.
Day after day, I am more in love with you. When people ask me what is love, I say love is right here. This moment, this second, today, tomorrow.
Love is you, love is real, love is my eternity with you Innocent Ujah Idibia. I give you all of me today knowing that in you and you only has this imperfect girl found perfection.
I do 13 years ago when I met you, I do 7yrs ago, I do 5yrs ago when we created our daughter.
I do through all the blogs and tabloid headlines. And on this day, at this very second I stand in front of the world and I say I do take you as my wedded husband.
Samini To Sing National Anthem For Joseph "King Kong" Agbeko Tonight!
A rare honour done him, the Dancehall artiste will be performing at the Accra Sports Stadium tonight to usher in the main fight of the night between Joseph ‘KingKong’ Agbeko and Colombian Luis Melendez, for the vacant International Boxing Organisation (IBO) Bantamweight title.
Samini gets to perform courtesy an invitation from the Ghana Boxing Authority and the organizers. That is a big deal, and one Samini is excited about.
“Am #honoured to be chosen by @Kingkong4real & the whole #GBA to sing the #GhanaNationalAnthem tomorrow @ #AccraSportsStadium,” Samini tweeted yesterday.
Agbeko is expected to win the bout today Friday March 22, 2013 which coincidentally is taking place on his birthday. This would boost his career, that hasn't been all that buoyant for some time now.
Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko is returning to the ring for the first time after losing a rematch against Abner Mares in December 2011 in a bout that broke the heart of Ghanaians.
The former world boxing champions will tonight have showdown with Lius Melendez of Colombia for the IBO Bantamweight belt in Accra and what a birthday gift it would be if he wins tonight.
Tickets for this international bout is selling for GH¢10 (popular stand) and GH¢50 for Ringside.
'Am In Love With A Man Twice My Age' - Tommy Annan Forson's Wife-To-Be...
It is unlikely that former Joy FM and Radio XYZ presenter, Nana Yaa Agyare would be familiar with Shabba Ranks old-school reggae song that goes:
I'm in love with a man, nearly twice my age,
Don't know what it is, but it’s a hit from me youthful days,
As I go my way, I don't care what people say,
I'm in love with a man, nearly twice my age.
Certainly, however, her husband-to-be, ace radio broadcaster Tommy Annan Forson must have played that song one time or the other on radio. In a few weeks, that song will come to life when Tommy ties the knot with his sweetheart, thirty-something year old Nana Yaa.
It was Tommy himself who dropped the hint at the maiden DJ Awards held last week in Accra. When he walked onto the stage to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the development of radio and music in the country, Tommy couldn’t hide his joy of finding a new love and dedicated the award to her.
The announcement drew loud cheers from the crowd indicating their excitement about the latest news in town but after all the cheers, one question that remained on the lips of many was “who’s this lady who has “arrested” the heart of the broadcasting idol?
Though many expected the woman who in few weeks would earn the title of “Mrs Annan Forson” to be of his age or almost of his age, the opposite turned out to be the case when a young lady in her mid thirties who was sitting next to him waved her hand as a sign of acceptance.
Later Nana Yaa told Showbiz that love is not influenced by age, or race, or colour or size. “Marriage is based on the understanding and compatibility between both parties remarking that, “age will not be a factor if you both know the reason for being in the relationship”.
She said that even though she had known Tommy from afar and have been inspired by his broadcasting prowess, the thought of him being her future husband never crossed her mind.
She said that her friendship with Tommy started when he was coming to Joy FM to present a programme that had been specially designed for him.
“I quite remember that during those times, anytime he came to Joy and I was ready to get on air, he will coach me and correct my diction, look through the script to correct any mistakes before eventually I leave for the presentation. For me, he had being my mentor since my broadcasting career and has always been my motivator in the midst of challenges associated with my job”.
For Nana Yaa, she sees no reason why she has to let age be a deciding factor in her future happiness.
“I love him because irrespective of his status, he is not arrogant and domineering but he is God fearing, loving, understanding, patient, has a pure heart and we are compatible. Despite the age differences, he takes my counsel and accepts me the way I am. What else can a woman ask for in a man? My dear, when you see a good thing, grab it quickly” she said humorously.
